The Andorra 2027 World Championships candidacy organizes a World Snow Day accessible to all children

The Soldeu sector of Grandvalira hosts World Snow Day with free activities for children between 3 and 12 years old

The Association of Minority Diseases of Andorra and the 'Hi arribarem' group participated in the day along with children suffering from disabilities

Andorra la Vella, Sunday 16 January 2022.

The Pla d'Espiolets in the Soldeu sector of Grandvalira today became a centre for snow activities aimed at all children between the ages of 3 and 12 on the occasion of World Snow Day, an event promoted annually by the International Ski Federation (FIS). The candidacy for the Andorra 2027 Alpine World Ski Championships organized a day in the snow accessible for children with disabilities. The project promotes inclusion and accessibility, as well as the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among children through the practice of skiing. Children and families who are members of AMMA (Andorra Minority Diseases Association) and
'Hi arribarem Andorra' (with people with functional diversity) participated in the event.

The CEO of Grandvalira-ENSISA and of the candidacy, David Hidalgo, explained that the objective of the day was “to bring skiing closer to everyone with adapted skiing so that it really is a World Snow Day for everyone.” And he added: “Access to skiing in a country like Andorra must be universal, and universal means for everyone and every day, not just for the day we are celebrating today.”

The organization had the support of a team of volunteers to help with a dozen free activities in the snow, including a slalom, a parallel slalom, ski cross, a mini big air, Riglet snowboarding, snow hockey, and adapted skiing and snowboarding thanks to the Adaptive Centre section of the Ski and Snowboard School in the Soldeu - El Tarter sectors of Grandvalira, among others.

World Snow Day focused on the pillars of the bid

The candidacy worked with a vision of the day that is based on two essential pillars. On the one hand, inclusion, with the aim of turning the resort and the country into a source of inspiration for different groups thanks to an improvement in integrated and accessible products, services, and infrastructures that allow barriers to be eliminated and which promote social inclusion and equal opportunities. And on the other hand, skiing and health with the aim of promoting from early childhood the healthy habits that practicing sports provides, as well as promoting continuous training towards professional and elite skiing.

The candidacy for the world championships and World Snow Day in schools

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education of the Government of Andorra, the candidacy project will shift the focus of attention on the occasion of World Snow Day to the country's schools through educational activities that will take place from 17 to 21 January. The activities will be carried out in nursery school and the first and second cycle of educational centres and will revolve around the theme of snow, skiing, and the values of practicing sports and inclusion.
