ANDORRA

A country committed to the environment

Andorra is a country nestled in the Pyrenees, a unique natural environment of great value. As such, the development of Andorra cannot be understood without the interaction of its inhabitants with the nature that surrounds them.

With the aim of taking care of this unique environment, which is our home, Andorra wishes to become a Unesco Biosphere Reserve in order to strengthen the balance between sustainability and economic and social development that characterizes the Principality.

Apart from this initiative, the country is moving forward in terms of sustainability and the environment, for example with the development of the Law to Promote Energy Transition and Climate Change (LITECC).

GRANDVALIRA

The largest ski area in southern Europe, a benchmark in sustainability

Grandvalira's priority is to ensure the conservation of its most precious asset: the natural environment in which it is located. The commitment to carry out environmental conservation actions leads the resort to minimize the impact on the landscape with regards to all the actions carried out in the territory. The main objective is to always work under criteria of maximum respect for nature. The different teams apply strategic guidelines to guarantee sustainability, in addition to encouraging visitors to act responsibly towards the natural environment that surrounds them.

Some of the actions carried out at the resort are:

  • Controlled water management to avoid waste
  • General cleaning organized annually to clear up all slopes and along lift lines
  • Waste management and monitoring of processing

All these actions are carried out to safeguard the resort's resources and are managed in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO 14001 standard.

AWSC ANDORRA 2029

More than an event, more than a sport

Andorra AWSC 2029 represents an opportunity to promote change in a country and region strongly linked to alpine skiing based on the commitment of the organization and its collaborators.

However, the contribution of Andorra AWSC 2029 goes beyond environmental commitment and proposes a much broader objective: sustainable development as reflected in the UN Agenda 2030, which includes society, the environment, and the economy.

The Andorra AWSC 2029 Candidacy includes a comprehensive and detailed Sustainable Development Plan that aims to create a legacy for the country and the Pyrenees region. This plan will also set a precedent for the organization of alpine skiing competitions of the highest level, contributing to the progress of the sport.
